On our way home one night we walked pasted the skinny entrance of El Chanchullero Restaurant, what made us stop was how busy it was and the vibe coming out of the place. Hip young Cubans where enjoying dinner and drinks and it was busy. Anywhere this busy in Cuba must be onto something and the locals knew it.
Next night we made a bee line straight for El Chanchullero restaurant and were very lucky to get a table upstairs. Come early, there was a que outside when we left. Mood lighting makes the place feel warm and cozy, tables were just far enough apart to feel like you were in your own space.
We were given the typed paper menu which was all in Spanish, obviously they don’t get that many tourists - yet! Fortunately the waiter spoke pretty good English and recommended a chicken dish and a pork dish, starting off with a Mojito each. Wow these were the best Mojito’s we have ever had in Havana, man did they pack a punch. We could only drink one and were definitely feeling the effects.
