Horse Ride Tour
to Waterfall
in Trinidad

Our horse ride tour started straight from our casa in Trinidad, then off for around 5 hours trotting into the Trinidad valleys with a walk to a stunning waterfall with an excellent swimming hole.

Horse Ride Tour to Waterfall

Our horse ride tour was meant to start at 10am but our horses arrived to our casa front door at 9.30am, how cool, no transport needed. Unlike our horse ride in Vinales - link to page, we made sure the saddle and stirups were adjustable in the hope of not getting such a sore butt.

We did also ask for a guide who spoke english, however, out of luck again. At least we had the guide just for us and were not in a big group. Off we trotted, litterlly down the cobblestone roads of town then out into the small streets, into the vally. Our guide was really pushing our horses and us so there was quite a lot of trotting not walking.

We walked through some lovely streams, saw sugar cane fields and an old sugar cane farm. Our first stop after quite a bit of riding was at a small restaurant where they were pressing fresh sugar cane to make into a nice drink for $2 CUC. It was suggested we stop in here on our way back for lunch and what would we like so it can be ready for us later. It was a bit expensive at $8 CUC for a chicken dish so we only ordered one. We also were not sure if it would be any good or not.

Walk into the Waterfalls & Swimming holes

After we left the small restaurant we trotted/walked through more of the vally up into the hills where we meet up with lots more horses. I image this tour would be even busier in peak season and a bit of a nightmare. Our guide managed to get across to us that it would be a 10min walk to the waterfall then we had 1 hour to swim and relax before we walked back to the horse.

The walk to the waterfall was easy but over a few rocks, walking shoes would be much better than flip flops or jandels. By the time we arrived I was ready to jump stright in, the water looked amazing. A beautiful turkquise blue with clear water flowing down one really big waterfall into the first swimming hole then over a second waterfall into the second swimming hole. The water was a lot warmer than I thought it would be, totally awesome.

On our way back we stopped in again at the restaurant, just in time for the heavens to open and pour down with rain. Good job it was really short lived. As predicted the lunch was nothing to write home about, good thing we only ordered one dish. The full on trot home was hard work and tiring.

Our sum up of our Horse Ride Tour to the waterfalls

It’s a pity we had to ride so far to get to the waterfalls, our guide was pushing us quite hard with a lot of trotting. If you’re not used to this it’s much harder than just having your horse walk. The track was really boggy in parts, so much so my horse and me nearly fell right in as he slipped in one part. By the time we got home my knees were sore and we were both pretty tired. The waterfalls and swimming hole was definitely the highlight.
